Anthracite Masonry Waterproofing is a masonry waterproofing contractor serving Scranton, PA and the Lackawanna and Wyoming valleys.
The name is the region. Anthracite is the hard coal that built Scranton, Carbondale, Pittston and Wilkes-Barre, and the houses that came with it are what we work on: rubble stone foundations, soft valley brick, block additions from the fifties, chimneys sized for a coal furnace, and three-story commercial walls downtown that were built to shed water at the parapet and have not for decades.
We do one kind of work, keeping water out of masonry, and we do it in a fixed order. Find the path with a hose test and a moisture meter. Fix the source if it is a spout, a well, a crown or a coping. Repoint in a mortar that matches the wall. Rebuild the cove, parge and coat. Add drainage only when the test says water is arriving under the slab. Excavate only when the test says the wall is being loaded from outside. That order is why most of our jobs come in at the interior price and not the exterior one.

Because a homeowner with a wet basement should be able to know, before anyone rings the bell, whether they are looking at a $500 problem or a $10,000 one. Registration, insurance, and what we will not do
Pennsylvania HICPA registration and liability insurance, with the number printed on every estimate. We will not inject a block wall, seal a wall with open joints, coat a wall that is moving, or put a film-forming sealer on coal-era brick, because each of those is a way to take money for a repair that fails.
